The oil pump is mounted on the timing chain cover, and the crankshaft runs right through the pump. There are two seals - one is an O-ring where the pump mounts to the timing chain cover. The other is the main crank seal, where the crankshaft comes out the pump. No matter which is leaking, replace both. We're only talking about $7 each here.
As Chrisx states, you need to remove the belts and the main pulley (aka Harmonic Balancer). After that, it's easy. The hard part is getting to the bolt that holds the pulley on, because there is very little clearance. For a complete writeup, check out the Townsend site:

Yes, you can DIY if you're patient, and you get a ground-down socket. Otherwise, I'd guess at about 2 hours labor from a shop and minimal in parts. If you need the harmonic balancer replaced, plan on an additional $150 for the part. If the harmonic balancer has never been replaced, do it now. If it has been replaced, it's probably fine, but inspect the rubber for cracking.
As to the oil pump - with regular oil changes, they usually last forever. If you want to be sure, beg, borrow, or buy an oil pressure gauge. Remove the oil pressure switch that's mounted right by the oil filter, and run the engine cold and warm and see what the oil pressure is. If the readings are good, assume the pump is good. If they're low, replace the spring in the oil pressure relief valve and try it again. Even then, if you pull the oil pump off and the gear teeth look worn, you could replace it then. The oil pump is just two big concentric gears in a machined cover. Nothing you can't inspect.
Good luck!
