APC was introduced in 1982 mid-year... are you sure this car has APC? There should be a round solenoid with three hoses and a two-wire connector near the turbocharger by the radiator. APC box is located under left (USA driver's side) rear seat, grey box with a large connector.
Knock sensor can be tested by lightly rapping on its *bolt* with a screwdriver while engine is running - APC solenoid should click audibly each time you tap.
