There are differences between the automatic and manual transmissions. Choice of one over the other has to do with personal preference. Another factor is the type of driving you do. If you live in the city where stop and go driving is the norm then an automatic transmission is the better option. I prefer manual transmissions myself. Manual transmissions offer better performance for sport type driving. You can choose your gearing. In the event you have a dead battery you can "pop-start" the car. Manual transmissions off better fuel economy over automatics. Automatic transmissions tend to "waste" engine performance. The converter on automatics must be "spun" to create forward momentom. This wastes energy.
As far as difficulty is concerened the conversion is quite easy. Due to the design it can be done. All you need are the propper pieces. You will need a flywheel, clutch disc and pressure plate, slave cylinder, fluid line, clutch master cylinder, and a pedal assembly. You will also need to change the engine oil pump pick-up tube as they are different between the manual and automatic transmissions.
It is hard to estimate the price of the conversion. Labor rates vary amongst repair shops. Considerable savings can be had by making use of "junk yards".
Hope this information is of help.
