Have been working to get several 86-87-88 16V to pass the test here in Portland,OR. By many attempts and many failures we have found that a couple cars test results indicate they could be running too lean and the cat not working properly as a result. We played with using resistors in place of the temp sensor and succeeded. We have used an 1850 ohm resistor wired in place of the temp sensor and we get excellent test results on all three - nox, thc, co. Does anyone know of any other system glitch that could be causing this lean run? Other symptoms on same cars are multiple cold running & stalling complaints, and turbo with less boost than it used to. Thinking of wiring a resistor in series with the temp sensor to increase richness as if engine has not reached full temp. Any thoughts or experiences in this area would be greatly appreciated.
