It all depends on what you are looking for. By 900 basic I take it you mean a n/a(non turbo) engine.
Given both to be in similar condition and mileage.
The SPG will give you more performance and in my opinion, a better looking car with more resale value down the road.
The basic 900 may be a tad more reliable than the turbo, but that really depends on how both car were taken car of by previous owner.
Is the 900 basic automatic or manual? Most people with node towards a manual over automatic, I've had both, both were fine with me, however the 5 spd is much more quiet on the highway and tends to be more reliable.
900 basic will give you a smoother feeling ride. SPGs' can be a bit harsh comparitively.
As for snow difference, I don't know. This will be my first winter with a SAAB and it is an SPG...we'll see.
You need to decide whether performance and handling are your needs versus a more docile vehicle.
BTW, having owned both, both are great choices!
