It's not often I can add or share my experiences. A serious amount of rainwater dropped into the ignition switch as my wife opened the sunroof, I didn't know until the next day. The next morning she noticed the switch was tight but forced the rotation, the car started and she drove the few blocks [thankfully!] to work. Shortly later, headed to an appointment, the key would not move. I drowned everything in WD-40 and started working the key slowly through the usual rotation, finally into what should have engaged the starter. Nothing! Over and over. Time to dig out the meter, everything checks out, the car should start. Finally I learned the starter was bad, just new 4 months previous! A few days later the same happened to me, real hard to rotate the key. When I finally could the car started but the switch did not spring back out of the start position and left the starter engaged with the motor running! Beware!! I'm not all that sure just the WD-40 has been enough lube. The key cylinders are OK, just that at times the rotation of the switch seems overly "sticky".
Good Luck! Don
