Leaking Pressure tranducer? What can I do?

Well, I have a feeling that my APC troubles have been due to a bad pressure transducer... I get the hiss/woosh from the dash area under heavy boost.
A used one that doesnt leak seems to be a hard find and a new one is $200+! =(
Should I just leave it be? Disconnect the Vac. line and plug it? What are the pros/cons w/doing that?
If I do that, my car will start boosting uncontrollably right? At least until it hears knock? I dont want this.. I want it to consistently boost to a certain PSI that I determine with the APC. Can this be done? Thanks..
