but an 89 trans should bolt up just fine. You can use the 93 clutch set on the 89 box (flywheel, disc, and pressure plate). The final drive ratio is also different between 93 and 89. The 89 non-turbo box, (I assume it is an S box) is good for more torque than the 93 turbo box, but you lose some top end (maybe 5 - 10 mph off the top).
How many miles are on the 89? Of course, that is not the lone determinant of how good the replacement is going to be. I have seen boxes with only 90K on them that were done - pinion bearing, second gear, reverse, etc... all done. You really cannot tell until you have bloted it all up and driven it. If you can still drive the 89 with the good tranny in it, I highly recommend doing so. if not, then it is still a crapshoot as to the quality of the box.
