I went a different route

I decided that the 4x10 to 6x9 converter was not the way i wanted to go (although, much easier than what i did). i bought orion 5.25" components (seperate mid range and tweeter), and made a plate out of plywood to mount the speakers on.
-i removed the old 4x10s, and the grill
-cut the hole as large as i could without going outside the size of the original grill, and making sure not to cut the holes for the for grill screws out.
-painted the original grills flat black an re installed them.
-mounted the speakers underneath, and hooke them in (via the crossover).
easier than it sounds, and they sound fantastic. i kept the original grills to keep the speakera a little stealth. i have seen to many people lose their speakers recently. so if they look stock, most theifs won't mess with them. they look for the expensive after market stuff.
good luck. email me if you decide to go this way, and i give you a few tips.
