Howdy.
On the first weekday after a prolonged drive through Cape Breton on (Canadian) Thanksgiving, I noticed that the power steering belt had come off. Yesterday I set about fixing this problem.
--> 1986 900 8V 5SP
All went very well, except when finished I noticed the steering seemed quite a bit looser than normal. I went upstairs to finish up some business around the house, and when I came back to the garage the reservoir had emptied itself onto the ground. "Darn," I said.
Okay. One detail that I left out was, as I struggled to get the pump to rotate on its adjustment arm, I completely removed the bolt (the one with the head between the pulley and the pump reservoir).
When I removed the bolt and washer, I heard something drop down into the nether regions of front suspension. "Darn," I said, or some reasonably similar expression. I assumed it was a spacing wash of some sort, and after a half hour of searching, decided to soldier on without it.
Now I assume that since the leak appears to have come from the area around where this bolt meets the power steering pump reservoir casing (the tall black metal model, not the clear plastic one), that this must have been some variety of seal or crush gasket. I have inspected the area, and have determined that all the hose fittings appear sound, and the only wet part of the pump/reservoir begins from under that bolt.
So there's my question: Is there a piece that seals the connection between the adjusting arm bracket, the bolt, and the power steering pump reservoir? The parts catalogue and Bentley don't mention much on the subject, and I haven't come up with a related thread by searching the C900 board.
Also, while I have your bandwidth, are there any known recommended independent mechanics in Halifax, NS? I've only been here two months, but will be staying a little longer than that.
Thank in advance,
Love the car anyway.
