or electrostatic macining. there are peple who have the tools to remove broken taps and extractors. They can remove it by ultrasonics, which vibrates the unwanted metal out, or electrostatic discharge, which is a very small welder in reverse and arcs out the broken part. The best long term fix I have found for any steel hardware in an aluminum part is a heli-coil or similar stainless insert. Aircraft are put togeather with them so they can be taken apart. Work great on cars too.
