dying/dead turbo? safe to drive?

My turbo is very close to its death knell. No plume of white smoke yet, but how will I know when its bought the big one?
There was an incident a couple of weeks ago of losing an IC line and ever since, things have gotten progressively worse.
At first, boost was fine, would hold at 20 psi.
Next couple days, got more and more erratic.
Switched APC's... for a couple of days back at 20 psi, and it slowly got lower and lower.
Now at WOT it can hold and sustain 8psi, regardless of APC.
There are NO vacuum leaks, all is FINE except max boost is slowly getting lower and lower.
My question... if I wanted to get a few more miles out of it.... should I just remove the APC nad plug the distributor line?
Keep the distrib line in (have an A.I.D)?
Will this be a sure way to exacerbate my grad. loss of cylinder compression?
thanks,
martin
