Performance in an 8V non- turbo?

I have an 85 900S 5 speed, and I love the car, but good lord is it slow. I'd like to increase performance but not make it a fire breathing monster. I can get an 8V turbo motor out of an 84, but it has an automatic, and I've read that the turbo 5 speed has different tranny ratios than my non-turbo, so I'm not sure that is the way to go unless I can aquire the proper 5 speed. My other thought is to put a new cam, headers, free-flow exaust, a K&N filter, maybe new injectors, or hell, maybe a mild nitrous setup. The old girl has 195K on her, and runs like a top, just S L O W L Y! I plan on keeping her until she falls apart or some moron hits me. My wife doesn't mind if I spend some money on performance, since it will be less than a new car payment!. So... whats the general thought on this? Any info will be appriciated.
Thanks!
