Your alternator is probably OK, but your brushes and voltage regulator might be bad, especially after pulling positive cable while engine is running, a no-no. All is not lost. The regulator sits in the front top of the alternator and is attached by 2 phillips head screws. To get to the screws, take the belts off the alternator and flop the alternator to the side. One screw is obstructed but can be removed with one of those little sears right angle screwdrivers. Pull the regulator out and you will see 2 worn out carbon brushes (5mm minimum length, I think). Before you pulled the cable, probably only the brushes needed replacement. But since the soldering the brushes requires 3 hands, it's easier to just replace the regulator. sobstory has them really cheap. I think this will solve your problem.
