If you're very lucky, the shifter is loose under the boot; just tighten the screws.
If you are you just a little less lucky, you have a bad front motor/trans mount, which allows the engine to lift under power. As soon as you reduce torque, the shift rod from the trans moves and bingo, you're in neutral. with ebrake on tight and engiene running have a helper partially release clutch in gear while you watch front of engine lift. You can sometimes see the tears in the hydraulic mount, which is down near the radiator.
If those check out, the shift linkage bushings or linkage donut might be bad, which are dirty jobs and can need special tools/tricks. Last, you trans may be showing signs of wear, but my guess is that it's probably OK.
