Continuing to try to fix this problem: LH2.4. Cold start the car runs fine, idle right where it should be, performance is great. Once the engine is hot, say 1/2 hour of highway driving the idle stays between 1200 & 1700 rpm, and fluctuates, almost surging at times, performance still great. No fault codes ex. "no tach signal", which is normal when the engine's not running. I have completed all the diagnostics in Bentley: no errors, no air leaks. I did find today that if, when the idle is running high, I shut down & disconnect the Throttle Pos. Switch the car behaves perfectly. Shut down & re-connect and it idles high again. I reset the switch per Bentley: no improvement. I took the switch apart: seems perfectly normal. cleaned the contacts anyways. re-installed & the prob is back. I also checked the Neg. coefficient temp sensor. Starting w a cold engine, ambient temp 55 deg F. the resistance was 2.6 K ohm, after warm up it was down to 340 Ohms. This seems to be within an acceptable range. WHY does open circuiting the throttle swict allow a normal idle?
Any ideas from the experts out there?
TIA
johnf
