To narrow down a short(battery drain) Posted by DougM [Email] (#211) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DougM) on Sat, 27 Oct 2001 11:08:12 In Reply to: Re: 89 900 HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, KeithR, Sat, 27 Oct 2001 09:52:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Put a fully charged battery in the car but don't hook up the negative cable. Place a test light inline between the negative cable and the battery (-) terminal. The light should be bright(meaning something is on and draining the battery). Make sure all the doors are closed because an interior light would foul the test. Start pulling fuses until you find the one that makes the test light go out. Granted, the clock will make the light stay on but it will only be dim.
When you get to the fuse that makes a significant drop in light intensity, you've at least narrowed the source down. Some fuses have more than one function, but this will give you a smaller choice to start looking. The culprit could involve a bare wire touching ground or a corroded grounding point.
