i've had several vacuum leaks over that years that were intermittent sounding. you probably have a small crack in a vacuum hose, which makes a loud whiny noise as air is sucked through it. when you step on the gas, engine vacuum decreases, so less air is sucked through the hole. the hose from the PCV valve to the intake is a big offender in my book. with the car running and making the noise, pinch off vacuum lines with your fingers one by one until the noise stops. good luck!
