Hello. A colleague told me about this BB and I sure do hope I can get some advice. I'm new to Saabs and considering buying a 900, 16valve, 1992 with about 120,000 miles. I have to admit I don't know much about repair work, but my intention is to learn and try to do as much myself as I can.

The car in general is in good shape on the inside and outside. After test driving the car, I did come across some potential problems and I hope I can get an idea of how "serious" these signs are, and if so, how much it could cost me down the road to repair.

1)When the car is started, it has black smoke coming out of the tail pipe which lasts about 5 minutes. I'm figuring this is going to be a problem passing emissions in my state.

2)Brake pedal seemed much "stiffer" than what I'm used to, but brakes appear to work fine. This may be normal for Saabs, but just want to make sure.

3)Stick shift somewhat difficult to move between gears.

4)I need to press the gas pedal slightly in order to start the car. Once the car is started, runs fine. Is this OK for cars with fuel-injection?

I'm going to look at this car again tonite, so any information will be much appreciated. Thank you for your time.
