After installing a "dry head" it usually takes anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes of running for the valves to "pump" up. I remember the first headjob I did. Fired up the car and the valves were clacking away. I got nervous after 10 minutes. Then mad as the lifters were still clacking. The phone rang and I talked for twenty minutes. I left the car running and figured if it blows up then good ! LOL. After the phone call I went back into the garage and the car was quiet as could be ! Needless to say I was very ecstatic ! It takes awhile for the lifters to bleed down.

If the noise persists after several hours or days then something is amiss. The oil supply rails can be a pain to install. You need to make sure that all the nipples are lined up properly. Also the o-rings need to be lubed so that they press in easily. I use silicone grease. They slide right in. It is quite easy to crack a nipple ! The next place to look is at the bolts that hold the cam saddles in place. The outer and inner bolts are different. The "silver" bolts are solid. The "black" bolts are hollow. The silver bolts go around the outer perimeter and the black bolts go around the inner perimeter. The Bentley manual expalains the correct placement of the bolts.
