Shouldn't take more than a couple hours. Depending on why you're replacing the turbo, you might want to consider replacing the turbo oil supply tube or cleaning it with a brass rifle brush...dino oil often gets coked inside the tube and when you even slightly disturb the tube during installation the stuff cracks off collects/plugs/starves the new turbo bushing and it fails. Rebuilt/new turbos are NOT warranteed for this failure.

OTOH, I ran synthetic in my 87 900T (NOT water cooled, BTW, runs hotter than yours!) for 50-60K miles before I replaced the turbo for unrelated reasons....leaky seals (although some might argue the synthetic exacerbated the seal leak)...with a used turbo and I didn't replace the supply tube nor did I run a rifle brush up it....it's still running fine 50K miles later, no idle smoking. Your choice.

Also, if I had it to do over again I might have paid more and put in one of those hybrid turbos...trading off a little (more) turbo lag for cooler high pressure air...the stock turbo at 18psi is pretty well out of it's efficiency range and heats the air pretty good.
