When you mention the "crossover T", are you talking about the 2 'Ts', one for the 'up' and one for the 'down' that are attached to either side of the pump? If so, disconnecting them would probably be no different than allowing the bubbles to rise to the top of the reservoir and then be replaced by topping up the fluid!? Also, in my case, even though there are no more bubbles showing in the lines the top does not move, up or down, when the pump runs so it really does appear that the pump has had a sudden failure and "Why?" is what I am attempting to find out. What fails within the pump to cause it to suddenly stop working? I would expect there might be a broken connection between the pump/impeller and the motor, a broken 'O' ring, etc. What I want to do is ensure that the problem cannot be resolved with a repair before I spend a lot on a replacement pump.
BTW the operating pressure of the replacement pump appears to be in the 300-500psi area so I expect that if a hose is disconnected from the system for bleeding purposes a very strong stream of fluid would be sprayed out, did this happen to you? I guess what I'm going to have to do is disconnect the connections from one of the 'Ts', remove the T from the pump and find out what thread/pitch it is so I can make an in-line pressure tester. I expect I should be able to find a low cost gauge that I can connect into the system. Even if I have to replace the pump the gauge can remain fastened under the seat and would be available to diagnose any future (cylinder??) problems.
