You can milk some more life out of the drivers by switching sides, since the driven side of the facings normally takes the wear. If your tripod fell apart and really banged up the driver, then I would replace with a used one from the driver's side. On second thought, I would replace anyway just to save the time. As you seem to be aware, melting and leaking grease on the passenger side from exhaust heat is the primary cause of failure. I think that any of the so called extreme pressure bearing greases will work fine. I used valvoline synthetic and after a year, it was still thick as new. Boot ripped and no grease leaked out.
