The question of synthetic vs. conventional oils will be a long and continuous debate.... The main question is how do you use your car ie. short commutes, long drives unemcumbered by traffic or race track under extreme conditions... One issue of concern to me is running an oil too long because of the build up of acids, moisture contamination etc.which lead to the real culprit; sludge, varnish and viscosity breakdown.
Synthetics seem to handle the viscosity issue real well but the contamination problem is an across the board problem. Most conventional oils from what I have read in consummer reports are really quite good at controlling all the above problems, however trying to maximize mileage over 5000 miles under normal driving seems to really tax the oil additives.
Bottom Line?...Use any good conventional motor oil which meets the SAAB owners car requirements [1.40 qt.] and change it more frequently.Your engine will love you for it!! JK
