They are guilty of a false add (mabe a mistake in flyer creation), and not informing me of potential 3X overcharqe from verbally agreed cost. But, they provided a very convenient shuttle service, mech'c did a good job, and the young serv mgr was hard core c900 guy, with mint cond 92 S, and also was hard core MC guy, f1 bike racing fan, etc. so I backed off.
I had bought shims and done camber and caster changes in the past, and nothing was seized up .. last aligned 3 yrs ago. Most $60 alignments are for modern cars with eccentics to twist while u watch the screen. A fair price for a normal tweek of all c900 settings would be about 2 hrs, or $120 or so, at a saab specialist/dealer. Most of the time only toe tweak is needed.
My front align changed alot when I installed the old std boge replacements up front a few years back (blue box, not boge-turbos now sold as replacements). I think these were very high pressure, and jacked up the front about 1/2", kicking in xtra +camber, and making total toe-in a tire eating .19" (as meas'd off rim).
I wound up with .4 deg neg camber, 2.6/7 caster, and .04 deg (.1") total toe in. All close to what I asked for. Neg camb is for more even tire wear, and more grip on exit ramp moments, but have't played yet.
The car turned in quicker with excessive toe in, but I can live w/o that. The c900 goes to excessive toe-in (ackerman effect) when turned sharply, which is not good in snow conditions. The min-toe is for this.
Car tracks strait better, but I think this caster is excessive, with steering getting quite heavy when parking, etc. 2.4/5 caster would be better, and in normal spec.
Car actually rides better over bumps now the excessive toe-in is gone, mpg's may go up too.
