Hi,
I don't think the recomendation of MB factory style coolant for Saabs is aimed toward cooler operation but rather to best fight corrosion to the cyl.head and block etc.,which can be extreemly costly to straighten out.
I don't know of any generic coolant that matches the MB stuff.
I would think if one fully drained the block and other coolant places in a Saab and used a top name brand green coolant with some cooling system lube additive and also changed the coolant every year you well may be safe against corrosion.
Be sure to use a 50/50 mix of coolant and water.
That gets you to 36 degrees below 0 fahrenheit.
Adding more coolant than water is said to lower the effectiveness of the heater.
