popping out of gear

A few weeks ago I rebuilt the tranny in my 89 900 S and also put a new clutch in. Occasionally over the last few weeks it would pop out of 3rd gear when decelerating in certain circumstances. On my way home just now, all of a sudden, 3rd pops out on any deceleration, and 2nd gear will barely stay in at all. When I rebuilt the tranny I replaced the pinion bearings and the 2nd and 3rd gear syncros. The shift forks were barely worn so I didn't replace those. Could this be a shifter alignment problem? When I put it back together, I didn't go into the shifter assembly at all. I just undid the clamp when I took the tranny out, then put the tranny into 4th when I put it back in, then pulled the shifter straight back into the 4th position and tightened the clamp. Any suggestions on what could be wrong are greatly appreciated.
