Either the clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder failed. The master cylinder is most likely if you're not getting a leak of brake fluid under the front of the car (check the reservoir). You may be able to bring the clutch back to life for a little while by refilling and bleeding, but don't count on it. A burst hydraulic hose is another possibility, but much less common than a bad MC or SC.
A new master cylinder is about $100 or a little less and replacement is a reasonable DIY job. A rebuild kit for the MC is about $20, but if the bore of the cylinder is pitted (likely), you'll be wasting your time. You have to pressure-bleed the clutch circuit when you're done. You should probably purge the brake circuits of old brake fluid at the same time and replace with fresh.
If the slave cylinder is shot, replacement is a bit more complicated because you have to remove the clutch, but it is still a reasonable DIY job. A new slave is about $100, or a clutch kit with clutch, throwout bearing and slave is about $220 or so. There's no need to remove the flywheel if the seal behind it isn't leaking, but do replace the clutch shaft bearing when you're in there. Saab clutches are remarkably long-lived, so don't assume that the clutch should be replaced. Turning the flywheel isn't needed unless it's deeply scored or otherwise damaged. If so, a replacement flywheel (junkyard) may be a better bet.
