1. Check that the switches are operating correctly. These are located under the arm of the clutch, brake and accelerator pedals. Sometimes they get misaligned and (in someone's dream world) you can realign them and get everything working again.
2. Check that the vacuum connections are OK. You need to find the vacuum hose under that hood that comes from the little vacuum pump. Suck on the end of that hose - the accelerator pedal should move down and you can see the throttle connection move (from under the hood, while sucking). This is another dream scenario, of course, but easy to check.
From there it is a matter of checking the electrical parts, for which you need a VOM. It turns out that mine is a bad switch on the stalk, the replacement for which is $99 and I have not bothered to fix yet. There is a pretty complete set of instructions for checking things in the Bentley.
