actually, 1986 mid year change to interal centering. Some 86's have internal centering boxes. Also, 86 was the first year for the front hydrolic mount, but only on turbos. N/A cars still had solid rubber front mounts in 1993.
The inner drivers changed in 1986. They may have changed with the internal centering.
Drain plug removed mid 1989 I believe.

If I recall from my manual, GM stands for Gearbox, Manual, the first # is the series, the second number is the # of forward gears, the third # denotes the different ratio, and the last # denotes the subseries

GregD is the expert on this stuff
on NA car. . .
GM45X 06 is the gearbox from 80 or so through mid 86.
I don't know for sure, but I believe the very early boxes have incompatible syncro rings from other 45x 06 boxes.
GM45x 08 is a 1 year box for the 85 900 turbo. It has an extra bearning on the input shaft I believe. It is basically the same as the gm45x 06

GM45x 10 internal centering, but parts are compatible with 45x 06 and 08
This is similar to a GM55x 02 I believe. The 55x 02 was on the turbo models.

GM45x 12 internal centering large pinion bearing. NA cars 89-90 early boxes have drain plugs. Parts are not compatible with earlier boxes.
I believe these are similar to the GM55x 04 on the turbo models.

GM45x 14 internal centering large pinion bearing revised shift forks?
These are on NA cars 91-93 (94 conv)
I don't know what the corrisponding turbo box p/n is. In fact the turbo gearbox p/n's I listed may be wrong

If you actually have any interest in the SAAB manual gearbox, the manual is still available from the dealer for around $20. There is really no substitute for the book. The front of the book explains all the part numbers, and what application they had. Even if you never plan to rebuild a box, the book is neat to look at.
