Throttle position switch (LH 2.2): TWO wires???

The throttle position switch on my 87 SPG has three spade terminals (front, middle and rear) but only two wires attached (front, middle). Both wires disappear into the same bundle. The wire attached to the middle terminal is grey; the one attached to the forward terminal is very dark with no markings detected(blurry eyes in dark don't help). I can't find a clue relating to a wire to attach to the rearmost terminal.
If I read Bentley correctly, there *should* be another wire attached to the rearmost terminal.
With throttle closed, there is continuity between the forward and middle terminals; at WOT, there is no continuity between these terminals.
At WOT there is no continuity between any two terminals, which suggests misadjusted or malfunctioning switch - - but that's not my question.
My questions are:
1. In fact, should there be a third wire attached to the rearmost terminal?
2. If so, where should it come from (so I can look for the bashful bugger)?
3. If the little devil can't be found, where does it hook up to so I can replace/rewire it?
And finally:
IS IT WORTH THE EFFORT??
Helpful posts much appreciated.
