How old is the rad- would be my 1st question?
Also- the cooling system in your 140K young car is proabably pretty gumed and calcified. A great flush my do some of the trick (of removing debris), but could lead to more expensive problems. The Merc stuff, although top quality, would not produce the benefit scene on a new system (and used regularly).
What do you want the car to do- cool more? A new rad is a huge start. Products like Water Wetter (by Redline) are sold to improve cooling- I admit, I poured some in and believe it or not, I did notice a differance. For $5 it does work- or it did for me. Of course, my new rad meant all the differance from 'before' versus 'after.' This is all in the heat of Tampa too.
I lived in El Paso for many years- standard mod to all of the Saabs I knew; remove thermostat! The BB is full of debate on this- works for me :)
A lower temp fan cooling switch also helps to cool the car.
Finally- water injection, but that's extreme for the daily driver.
Stick with what has kept you car running to 140K (+++); Ford owners are jealous.
