I've replaced complete shocks on each of my '92 900s. I found that it is best to soak each of the threaded ends with your favorite anit-rust stuff several times starting a week before you plan to do the job. I used a product called "Mouse Milk" but any of the other standard products from your favorite parts supply store should work well.
The rears are easy though you might want to use a jack to push a stubborn shock up through the bottom mount once the bolt is removed.
The front shocks can be difficult to remove at the top end. Many who haven't done the anti- rust stuff as I recommended, cut the shaft with a saw. I have been able to avoid that and have only had to use a pair of vice-grips to secure the shaft while I unscrew to the top nut.
The Boge gas shocks I got came with the needed rubber bushing replacements.
