Need Advice On Longer Lugnuts

I took my 88 900T to a tire shop today to get some new tires mounted on a new set of wheels but ran into difficulties. The tires are standard 195-60-15 size and the wheels are 15x6 set of BBS wheels from the eighties. The wheels have a diffrent offset (33 I belive) then the stock wheels and then original lugnts are to short to safely mount the new wheels. When they are screwed in they are only in by two or three threads. The shop didn't carry the necessary lugnuts and advided me that I should order the necessary lugnuts from BBS. This seems a little extreme to me. Wouldn't a more comprehensive wheel and tire place stock diffrent sizes of lugnuts? I doubt that the lugnuts that came with the wheels when they were made are still avaiable from BBS. Do you think my best bet is to call a couple more tire wheel and tire shops or what?
