curious timing after tune-up

Installed new NKG spark plugs (gapped properly) and distributor cap yesterday. Discovered that the idle is running slightly higher, which means the timing somehow advanced. No, the distributor body wasn't rotated. Besides the higher idle, I'm now also getting more pre-ignition during boost, which is a result of advanced timing. Yes, the vacuum advance/retard feature is connected and working. I'll guess that the slightly closer contact distance within the new dist cap is the reason why. But it's such a minute difference between the old and new. Is this common? I should add that this is my first year with a turbo car, and the first time the dist cap has been changed, so I don't have prior reference experience.
