Don't know if the AIC would be the source of a no-start situation. Usually, no start would be spark plug, hall sensor or fuel related. Have you changed the fuel filter lately or has the fuel pump (or pre-pump) been acting up lately? Hall sensor problems may be a loose wire at the distributor that when jiggled, magically allow the car to start. Also check the FAQ's here or do a search on "no-start".

The AIC will usually be the source of a high idle if it's gummed up inside. By cleaning it out and lubing it you may have helped the idle function out but you may be barking up the wrong tree, mechanically. By unplugging the AIC you should still be able to start the car, albeit with a high idle.

Whereabouts in the Pocono’s is the car located? I'm sure there are some Saab savvy mechanics in the area. Did you check the mechanics FAQ on the TSN? Alan Snelson who lives near Wilkes Barre-Allentown is a pretty good resource for used parts and I'm sure he'd steer you in the right direction mechanically. His email is snelson@epix.net

Good luck, I hope you get your daughter’s car running again. I know it’s tough diagnosing long distance problems. I had the same problem when my son borrowed by ’86T when he was at school in Syracuse and working in Emmaus, PA. Luckily the only problem he had was a master brake cylinder going south.
