Where goes the fuse?

I am a complete spanner when it comes to wiring, but I do know how to wire in a switch and relay. I did this for the heated seats....and it works!
I want to put a manually operated fan next to the normal one on the radiator-where does a fuse go in the circuit? Before the switch, between the switch and relay or after the relay? I am thinking of taking power straight off the battery like the ICE amplifier is.
Hang on a minute-the amp has the fuse between the battery and the amp....
