There is quite a bit of info on the topic here. Do a search. There's a few specific products which contain select ingredients which do actually protect the vinyl from breaking down, and some to avoid. One is Vinylex by Lexol. I use Maguires products. My 82 now has a perfect dash thanks to a 1980 donor car. I figure if it lasted that long without cracking, it'll last a while longer. I also use a dash cover whenever I leave it sitting in the sun for very long. A windshield cover would work as well.
