Where do you check if heat is going through core?

If you put your hand on the two heaterhoses inside engine compartment, they will NOT tell you if hotwater goes through heater core.
The reason is that inside the heatervalve is a bypass channel that allows coolant to go back in to engine even if you shut the heater valve closed.
Did you hook up rod to heater valve when you installed the new one and do the valve open and close while you operate the heatselector knob?
Do you have vacuum to the A/C selector switch? Is there a hissing sound when you turn the A/C selector switch through the different options?
