battery lite suddenly reveals itself......

Problem time at this shadetree mech's backyard once again....the durable and consistent 86 900T suddenly gave me batt idiot-lite action after a long, hard day of driving. Seemed initially to come on when I was punching it up to speed, then the lite would go off once I was cruising. A few minutes later in my journey, and it would mostly go off after reaching a stable cruise. Now it's on continuously, with the lite becoming briter under load, as I expect if something's failing electrically.
The clues: I have not ever changed/tightened these alt belts in over 30k miles (on a 186k motor) and the alt was replaced back around 150k miles. Also, I have a new battery of correct size/power as of last month. Finally, as you may decipher from some of my old posts, I just replaced both headlamp pigtail connectors succesfully after frying the originals w/ too much wattage (100/80 H4's).
The car started, ran fine, all accessories worked fine today (day 2) and I have visually checked the double belts on the alt, they seem tite but maybe they are slipping due to oil residue from my somewhat leaky main seal? This is what I believe is happening, 'specially as yesterday I was on the road city/hiway/city literally all day & nite before this happened. So maybe just replace belt set? I will try to tighten, but if they are tainted w/ oil and grease that's probably very temporary fix?
same old same old
