Have my broken glass out, and planning to salvage the original seal which is still in good shape. I intend to buy new glass ($125) and had hoped to keep the original seal.

However looking it over, there is a grayish-black adhesive in (it seems) every joint of this seal. At connection to the car metal, in the pocket which holds the glass edge, and also at the lip which meets the outside painted finish. I tried removing this adhesive with laquer thinner, mineral spirits, even acetone, and nothing seems to release it.
FWIW this was original SAAB glass, not aftermarket. The seal was quite neat looking so I believe it was original.

I am worried about trying to install the new glass/old seal, only to have this adhesive prematurely attach to the steel, resulting in broken glass.

Has anybody done this? Can you put my fears to rest, or should I just buy the new seal and install it without any adhesive?
