The question is whether that knock is from detonation or is it from a worn or broken internal part in the engine. Detonation often can be cured by retarding the timing slightly, at least to find out if that is the cause. If that doesn't cure it, get a mechanics stethoscope and listen to the engine at idle to see if you can hear the sound. it oculd be in the bottm end (cramk bearings) or it could be high up in the head. Could be a rod bearing. Could be a piece of broken piston ring in the combustion chamber.
By the time audible detonation occurs, you have probably already done some damage to the engine.
