I do know what you're talking about. "My" first SAAB (now a parts car due to reckless Acura driver) was an '84 900S. I drove it, though it was really bought for my mother, because I liked it's quirks and she needed the roomy Caravan we had (thank goodness!). When I was in high school, folks thought I was Mr. Moneybags or something, just because I drove am old SAAB! Folks thought it was a much newer car, too. Once this preppy girl said to me, "So, you drive a SAAB? How old is it?" "An '84 model," I replied. Her jaw almost hit the floor! "Oh," she said. "I thought it was a lot newer!"

BTW, she hardly ever spoke to me after that. (I think she was a gold-digger, if you catch my drift.) Truth was, my folks bought that SAAB with 203,000 miles on it for $600 plus tax. My dad saw it languishing in the used car lot at the Dodge dealer where he worked and new it to be a good snow car. We kept it running (until Acura incident) and it is now sitting in my back yard with 267K miles (never used oil B/T changes), retired to life as a parts car. And the rest is history...
