You need to insert something between the upper a-arm and the body to keep the spring compressed, then undo the top balljoint and let the steering member drift outwards. Make sure you support the steering member to avoid having it tug on the brake line. That will give you enough clearance to remove the transmission without damaging the bearings or the drivers.
