At cold start-up in the am on a cold engine. I'm in the process of swapping out a known “bad” amm that totally crapped out on my '86 900T last week. I have a box of 5 used AMM's that I've been swapping in then checking in the morning during cold start conditions. The first two AMM's had bad "idle hunts" after starting up fine, so I've just been putting one in after another and checking the next day.
Yesterday, I had some time with the third used AMM, and checked the ohm resistance with a digital meter along with checking the voltage on the oxygen sensor. I got a reading of between of .02-.09 by adjusting the ohm screw on the amm to about 640. This morning it started up ok with a minimum of rpm swing. I started it up again after lunch and got the idle hunt again. Weird. Should I just spring for a new AMM? I’ve got two more AMM’s to check out. Can they all be bad or am I missing something?. Car ran fine before episode with first bad amm.
