I bought an 86 900 turbo a couple of months ago. I have replaced the turbo and alternator bushings, exhaust and changed all fluids. It has been running wonderfully. My wife and I celebrated our 20th anniversary yesterday so we both took half days at work and planned on having lunch and doing some shopping. She had not ridden in the car since I got the turbo set up properly so I was excited to show her the performance improvement. As soon as we got on the interstate I noticed a major performance problem. We got off at the very next exit and by then the car would barely idle. I also had no power brake assist. I popped the hood to try to find the source of this major vacuum leak. For reasons I hope someone can explain I found the following: The large plastic fitting going into the intake manifold had pushed itself out of the manifold. (There are 2 vaccuum lines attached - a small one and a very large one that goes to a device mounted on the top front of the engine) The rubber seal that the plastic fitting looked as though the rubber melted or deteriorated around the bottom of the seal(the portion that would normally be inside the manifold). I broke most of that off and pushed the fitting back into the manifold. I started the car and it idled and ran fine. I took it for a short drive and before I got to the end of my street the fitting had popped back out again. By the way, right after I had pushed the fitting back in I noticed that a quick push on the accelerator would make that large hose suck down flat. I am totally at a loss as to what is happening here. Could it be that because the bottom part of the seal has been compromised it has lost the portion of the seal that retains it in the manifold?? It seems to me that when I go from vacuum to pressure (move on to the turbo) the pressure is popping the fitting out. Could someone enlighten me what is going on and how I can correct?
