piston orientation : HELP !

Both Haynes and Bentley manuals state that pistons must be installed w/ the
notch facing the timing chain end of the block. My new pistons (Mahle)
don't have a notch ! I looked at my old pistons, and they don't have a notch either, but they do have a small arrow. One distinguishing feature
both types of piston share is the cast part that holds the wrist pin
(seen from below) : one side has a raised square-ish reinforcement, the other doesn't. Now if I *assume* that the small arrow on the old pistons faces the timing chain, then that means that the pistons should be oriented with the square reinforced part facing the timing chain also.
Could someone confirm this for me ? I really don't want to botch this !
Thanks,
Jeff
