The backup switch screws into the side of the shift lever housing. The switch sticks out of the left side of the housing, about and inch or two aft of the stickshift. It has two slide-on connectors sticking out horizontally. Both those wires are part of the back-up light circuit.
The switch can't be adjusted. Pull the wires off and see if the switch has continuity all the time, even if you're not in reverse. If so, the switch is bad. You might be able to clean or lubricate it, but it'll probably be best just to replace it.
