I have performed the 12v check, and despite a neglible leak when the valve should be closed, it does appear to be capable of functioning. I will do the screwdriver test once my clutch is reassembled and the car will run. Tonight's testing with a small and very nifty compressor (robbed from the N.A. 900), a tire pressure gauge, and some jumpers showed that the waste gate begins to open around 6 psi. According to the manual, the solenoid valve begins to function at 6.6psi, which makes sense in allowing pressure to further increase. Further testing of the boost gauge with the same apparatus showed me that my turbo hasn't made 6 psi (app. 1/3 into the yellow)in a long time. Please let me know if my assumptions are correct and since one of you probably has a fancy pressure gauge maybe you could tell me if my guesswork on the Saab boost gauge is correct enough.
1/3 into yellow: ~6 psi
2/3 into yellow: ~10 psi
border with red: ~14.5 psi
Thanks again,
Adam
P.S.: I am trying to check ALL APC components before taking on the intimidating task of overhauling the turbo. (Nothing like brakes or slave cylinders.)
Mark J: Since my `85 "900" is actually an `84 900t now, I am glad that you have the same model car as my motor. Hopefully I will be able to contact you here in the (near) future.
Thanks again.
