worth it to a mechanical engineer i spoke to who tinkers with saabs. idea is to keep heat in until it reaches the turbo. the turbo is more than just a wind vane, it is also run on energy. the hotter you can make the input and the quicker you can cool the immediate discharge from the turbo, the more efficient it will be. of course, the hotter the exhaust, the higher chance of hurting the manifold. so, wrap the manifold up to the turbo, then add a large down pipe (even a spool can if you can) and lag will be reduced. the guy i spoke with said that he wrapped three layers of the stuff on the manifold and once it got red hot, there was no lag whatsoever. however, the manifold would swell a lot when hot and shrink back when cold, reaks havoc on the gaskets. just don't wrap the down pipe, this may reduce underhood temps, but will decrease the efficiency of your turbo. just my thoughts...
